Plant a Kiss

CARGO’s latest lipstick line is sowing the eco-love

What’s the hottest shade for lips this season? We’re thinking green.

Now we’re not advising anyone to go and stain her smackers with hues of olive, chartreuse or jade. We’re talking about choosing color with an eco-conscience. And you’ll find that in CARGO’s new line of PlantLove™ Botanical Lipsticks.

plantlove-cosmeticsCARGO PlantLove™ is the only prestige color brand to carry an ECOCERT™ natural designation for its comprehensive commitment to the environment.

Created by the beauty innovator best known for their jumbo metal tins of high-shine lip gloss, PlantLove™ is the first-ever eco-friendly lipstick made with sustainable packaging. Each tube is crafted entirely from corn, a renewable and abundant resource that’s compostable and greenhouse-gas neutral.

What’s more, the outer carton is made with 100% post-consumer waste paperboard that’s biodegradable and infused with real flower seeds. When moistened and planted, this lipstick box actually blooms into your very own bouquet of wildflowers.

Pucker up, Buttercup!

“We wanted to create a line of high-performance, professional-grade makeup while still keeping the environment top of mind,” says Hana Zalzal, President and founder of CARGO Cosmetics. “Women shouldn’t have to compromise. They can have beautiful makeup and still be environmentally conscious at the same time.”

But is PlantLove™ just as beautiful on the inside as out? Yep. The earth-friendly, botanical lipstick formula contains no mineral oils or petroleum-based ingredients – and it comes in 20 creamy colors that glide on silky-smooth and sheer.

Many were inspired by places of ecological beauty, like Joshua Tree (a shimmering cinnamon sand), Killarney (a soft terracotta pink) and Yakushima (a sheer glimmering red). While ten other eco-fabulous colors were designed by Hollywood celebrities who collaborated with CARGO to create their own ideal lipstick shades.

So what’s the perfect PlantLove™ lipstick hue for your summer makeup bag? “I love Evangeline Lilly’s shade,” says Zalzal. The sheer, tropical coral “looks so striking on brunettes especially.” “Grace [an iced strawberry sorbet] by Angie Harmon and Lola [a sparkling praline] by Denise Richards are also great.”

Nurturing Success

PlantLove™ Botanical Lipsticks retail for $20 each and are available at Sephora stores and select independent beauty boutiques nationwide. By the way, CARGO also donates two dollars from the sale of every tube to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, the world’s premier pediatric cancer research center.

“We are caring for the future,” explains Zalzal. “The future of the planet and the people who will be here to care for it. It’s all about the seeds we sow today impacting future generations.”

To that end, CARGO has recently expanded the PlantLove™ makeup collection to include a Pressed Powder, Loose Mineral Foundation, Baked Bronzer, Blush, Lip Liner, Eye Shadow and more. Being beautiful has never felt this good.
