Less is More: The Style Strategy
“Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not giving a damn.”
–Gore Vidal
While some are hopeful that the recession will end soon, most are still being conservative about their spending. Fashionistas are turning into recessionistas and becoming more creative with style than before without spending more money.
And who is at the forefront of guiding the new recessionista to a less-is-more style strategy? Project Runway Judge and best selling author, Ms. Nina Garcia.
Garcia has once again put her years of experience in the fashion industry to work in her third book titled, The Style Strategy A Less Is More Approach to Staying Chic and Shopping Smart.
This book, like her first two, educated fashionistas on how to have a fabulous wardrobe. But The Style Strategy speaks to the current times of how people are spending less, saving more, and still striving to have a fashion forward wardrobe.
Garcia teaches the reader how to stay up on current trends while saving your wallet by asking three questions:
“What do I have?”
“What do I need?”
“What do I want?”
What do I have?
While it may be difficult giving up those bright yellow bell-bottoms from your mom’s closet, it is important to decide what you can and cannot live without. Purging items out of your closet that are not necessary makes room for those items that are.
Garcia gives wonderful tips as to making a successful closet purge like, “create an ipod playlist.” Listening to music while cleaning out your closet will relax you and allow you to make the tough decisions to get rid of those seat-less jeans you wore on a dare in college.
What do I need?
After eliminating those unnecessary pieces you will be able to accurately assess what is needed to complete your wardrobe. In this section of the book, Garcia guides you as to the difference between cheap, inexpensive, and bargain. Hint: stay away from cheap.
What do I want?
It is easy to neglect yourself and your wardrobe when faced with the challenges this economy brings. But have no fear this section teaches you that it is okay to pamper yourself within reason.
With tips from fierce designers such as Project Runway’s Christian Siriano and Michael Kors, Garcia has written another must-have addition to the bizMe gal’s fashion bookshelf.
